(August, 2008) Cortell, business intelligence consultants and implementation partners of Cognos, have announced that Napier City Council has selected Cognos TM1 to provide reporting, budgeting, planning and modelling solutions.

Napier City Council is the territorial authority for the city of Napier, Art Deco capital of the world. Following the devastating 1931 earthquake (7.9 on the Richter scale), Napier was rebuilt in the Art Deco style then prevailing. Its city centre is widely considered to be one of the most concentrated groups of buildings in the Stripped Classical, Streamline and Spanish Mission styles. Tourists flock to Napier to enjoy the ambience, especially during Art Deco Weekend, when visitors and locals dress up in the manner of the 1920s and 1930s. Napier is also home to 57,000 people, and enjoys a warm and dry climate. Local and regional industries include tourism, wineries and farming.

Drawing from Cortell's Previous Experience

Napier City Council's primary requirement is for a solution that provides transparency into the planning process for the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP). Following discussions and an appraisal of what solutons were in use by Councils of a similar size, Napier City Council chose Cortell and Cognos TM1. Cortell's experience with other Councils, including New Plymouth and Invercargill, persuaded Napier City Council that Cortell and Cognos TM1 are the ideal partnership. Other requirements include the ability to provide management reporting from disparate Council systems: TM1's ability to hold, combine and present business information impressed the Council's selection team.
